Foto Fix Optimizer is a plugin
from Jim Clatfelter which lets you adjust brightness, contrast,
saturation, gamma, colour balance and focus from one dialog.
JAlbum allows you to create nice
looking photo galleries for the web. You can simply select or drop
drag/drop folders containing images or movie files onto JAlbum and it
will create thumbnails and HTML pages to publish your images as a
gallery or picture slideshow. The galleries are based on various
template designs and appearance can be further customized by advanced
users. Additional features include support for EXIF data, URL encoding
of file names, style sheets, lossless image manipulation, optional
Shutterfly integration, (built in FTP client and more.
Web Picture Creator allows you to
create photo albums that can be published on the web as thumbnail
galleries. It offers customizable HTML output that you can edit to match
your site design, and also save the design as a template, so it can be
applied to other galleries. You can add titles and descriptions to each
image, specify the thumbnail size and output quality as well as several
general layout details and more. It can generate all the pages and HTML
code, or optionally only create thumbnails of your images. Web Picture
Creator is easy enough to be used by a beginner, but also offers enough
flexibility to accomodate specific needs.
Xibit is a rather unique tool
to generate top quality image galleries, using a variety of attractive
templates. What separates it from other gallery tools is the fact that
the viewer can change the gallery design and many other display options
on-the-fly, using an interactive Java Script control window. The viewer
can also zoom images, select to display file sizes, change thumbnail
sizes The program is easy to use, and all you have to do is select the
images and the theme that should be displayed by default. You can also
customize the output directory names, add custom links and more. The
resulting album is self-contained and can be uploaded to the web, or
burned to CD using your favourite CD burning software
Fotos on Web (FOW) is a tool to
create online photo-albums. You can select the images (individually or
by folder), add comments, background music, and select a style for the
generated pages. FOW uses XML and CSS to create the album designs,
allowing advanced users to further customize the output. The user can
specify an output directory, the number of thumbnails on a page, their
size and more. Fotos on Web comes with several styles included, some of
them simple, others with nice transition effects.
PhotoAlbumStudio allows you to
manage and distribute your digital pictures. It provides an interface to
catalog your pictures (jpeg and gif) in virtual albums that can be
placed on your hard drive or burned on a CD (burner not included). Since
the presentation is HTML/Java based, you can also upload it to your web
site and offer it for online viewing. Each picture may be provided with
a comment or a short story. A number of albums may be managed in the
project or catalog - they are displayed on an initial index page, so the
viewer can choose an album. A project may be saved for later editing and
published on a local hard disk along with JavaAlbum viewer. No extra
software installation is required to view the published albums.
PhotoAlbumStudio is very easy to use, all you need to do is select the
images to be included, and generate the nice-looking photo album.
Topaz DeJPEG is a Photoshop
compatible plug-in that can remove blocks and fringes caused by JPEG
compression. The default settings were not very effective, but some
adjustments of the sliders produced good results and noticeable decrease
in artifacts. You can combine smoothing with sharpness and edge
crispness to adjust results. In our tests, Topaz DeJPEG achieves results
similar to the Photoshop Despeckle filter and USM.
Media Purveyor is an image viewer,
and media player that allows you to manage your digital image
collections. It supports IPTC, EXIF, JPEG Comment, PNG Key/Values,
Dublin Core and ID3 information, and allows you to search for images or
media files based on these criteria, and also view and edit image
information to organize your files. In addition, the program offers
lossless image editing, red-eye removal, color balance (with white
balance), text annotations, and various image effects. Media Purveyor
can also generate thumbnails, index images, convert images and more.
Another small but handy feature is an image comparison option, which
allows you to view two selected images side-by-side.
GetCanon! is an image
downloader for Canon cameras, that can be used as an alternative the the
original Canon software. While it does not provide the fancy interface,
thumbnails and other features, it allows you to quickly do one thing -
download your images to a folder named after the current date. In
addition, it can rotate them automatically and optionally delete the
images from the camera after downloading them. The entire process can
run fully automatic, so all you have to do is launch GetCanon!
PC Inspector File Recovery is a data
recovery program with support for FAT 12/16/32 and NTFS file systems. It
recovers files with the original time and date stamp, and can optionally
restore them to a network drive and can recover many files, even when a
header entry is no longer available. On FAT systems, the programs finds
partitions automatically, even if the boot sector or FAT has been erased
or damaged. PC Inspector File Recovery offers an easy to use interface
that will scan your drive and automatically make files that can be
recovered available from a "Deleted" folder in an Explorer Style
navigation tree.

Plugins
The commercial
Vizros Plugins (for Windows) have
now been made freeware. They let you do sophisticated 3D page wrapping
effects. They let you use non-rectangular selections for page warp
effects and you can load additional images on the plugin dialog and map

The Color Space Converter,
Gray Scale Mixer and RGB Channel Mixer plugins (for Windows) from
Simple Filter have been updated
and localized to English. There are also commercial Pro version of the
two Mixer plugins available.
Adobe has released Version 3
of its free image management software
Photoshop Album Starter Edition
(for Win/Mac). It offers some of the features of the commercial
Photoshop Album like basic image editing, organization, slideshow and
emailing images.
Opanda PhotoFilter is a freeware
tool (for Windows) that imitates Kodak, Hoya and Cokin lens filters. It
offers adjustable density and auto luminosity compensation. Its
interface has a MacOS X look.
Easy Picture2Icon (for Windows) is
a simple tool for converting images or photos to Windows icons. It also
lets you choose a color that will become transparent in the icon. The
icon files can contain multiple icons of different sizes.
Xero now offers the free
Nostalgia plugin (for Windows),
which produces tinted monochrome effects.
Version 6.1 of
PTLens
(for Windows) from Thomas Niemann now lets you lens-correct photos taken
with fisheye lenses. It also includes chromatic aberration correction
features and an improved anti-vignetting feature. PTLens is certainly
the most convenient and easy-to-use lens correction tool (unless you use
a not so popular lens or compact cameras).
BleachBypass (for Windows) from
Red Pawn Media simulates the traditional bleach-bypass technique, which
creates desaturated, grainy and overexposed results. A commercial Pro
version of this plugin is also available.
The Flaming Pear Freebies
collection has been updated and contains 33 plugins now. The Veins
plugin draws red, green and blue structures that look like veins, Rule30
produces cellular automaton graphics and PixelTrash tries to imitate the
computer graphics of the early 80s.
Ralph Altmann, a German book author, offers four freeware
plugins (for Windows) on his web site. At the moment they are only
available in German language, but may be translated to English soon. To
download them just go to the four pages below and click on the link with
the zip file. The "SF Farbanzahl" plugin counts the number of colors in
an image, "RGB-Kanalmixer" and "Grauwertmixer" are enhanced versions of
the Channel Mixer in Photoshop and finally "Farbraumkonverter" lets you
convert an image between various color spaces. All four plugins are easy
to use, even if you don't know German.

Right Hemisphere decided to discontinue their
DeepPaint 2 product (for Windows) and make it available for
free. Deep Paint is a painting tool that offers artistic photo-cloning,
fully editable brush and canvas settings. It simulates oil, acrylic and
watercolor brushes. Deep Paint works as a Photoshop plugin as well as
standalone application. |
